Herbert R. Hoffman, 75, of Vine Street, Williamstown, passed away Wednesday at the Tremont Health and Rehab with his family at his side.
Born in Williamstown July 23, 1933, a son of the late Paul L. and Anna Shoop Hoffman.
He was a 1953 graduate of the former Williamstown High School, an Army veteran of the Korean War and member of the National Guard #722, Williamstown.
Herbie retired as a die repair mechanic from the former Amp Inc. in Williamstown and Tower City.
He was of the Methodist Faith, a member of the Williamstown American Legion where he was active in the former military band, a member of Liberty Hose Company #1, where he formerly was the Assistant Chief, chief driver, fire police and a trustee. A member of the Orwin Fire Company. A member of the Ashlar Lodge #570 F&AM, Lykens, Knights of Templer, Ashland; Tremont Royal Arch, Dauphin Co. Fireman Assoc, Dauphin County fire police, PA State fire police. He earned his eagle scout in 1955 from the Williamstown Boy Scouts #72 and also belonged to the Order of Arrow. He served as an assistant Scoutmaster with the Troop #72. He was also a member of the Carlisle Fire Company and was formerly active with the Williamstown EMS.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all kinds of hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by a infant son, December 14, 1955, a sister Anna E. Hoffman and a brother John Hoffman.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Caroline L. Trotman Hoffman; Two daughters, Joan M. Bohner and her husband Richard, Williamstown and Janice L. Rhoade and her husband Clair, Herndon. 1 Granddaughter, Jennifer Rhoade, Tower City. 1 Brother, Paul D. Hoffman, Palmyra. Serveral nieces and nephews.
Masonic services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday July 25th from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. Tower City. Religious services will follow with Rev. Dr. Stevan Atanasoff. Burial with military honors will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown. Viewing will be from 9:30 - 10:30 at the chapel.
