James E. McSurdy, 63, of Williamstown passed away Tuesday evening at the Manor of the Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

Born in Williamstown, August 12, 1946 a son of Anna Rowe McSurdy, Mechanicsburg and the late Samuel McSurdy.

He was a graduate of the former Williamstown High School and received his bachelors degree in education from Bloomsburg University.

He retired after 30 years, as a science teacher at Williams Valley Jr-Sr. High School.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a life member of the Liberty Hose Co. # 1 Williamstown and Dauphin  County Fireman Association; a social member of the the Williamstown American Legion#239, a member of the Ashlar Lodge #570 F&AM, Lykens and a member of the PSEA.

Jim was a avid sports fan, especially enjoying Penn State.

In addition to his father he was pre-deceased by a sister, Carol Feaster.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 37 years, Carol A. Sponsler McSurdy; Two sisters, Jane Engle, North Carolina and Deborah Calvario, Florida; 2 God Daughters,  Vanessa and Lexi Johns, Tower City;  Several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 10th at 11:00 am from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamstown.  Visitation will be from 10-11 at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations should me made to his church, East and Vine Street, Williamstown PA 17098 or Williamstown American Legion, 123 W. Market Street, Williamstown PA 17098.
