Harvey A. Evans, Jr., 79, of Dietrich Avenue, Orwin passed away suddenly Saturday at the Schuylkill Medical Center, East.

Born in Muir, October 2, 1930,  a son of the late Harvey and Ruth Long Evans, Sr.

Harvey was a 1948 graduate of Girard College.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars.  He served with the 103rd National Guard, 313 Infantry Battalion, 378th Supply and Service Battalion, 453rd Finance Company and 441st Personnel Company, all Army Reserve units.

He retired in 1990 as a Chief Warrant Officer at Indiantown Gap, with more than 25 years of military services with numerous outstanding service awards.

He was an active member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin where he formerly served on the consistory.  A member of  the Tower City American Legion, Orwin Fire Company, Gratz V.F.W. and the Girard Alumni Association.

Harvey's  life revolved his loving family, he enjoyed weekend trips to his camp in Lycoming County.

In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by a sister Doris Kissinger.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Marcella R. Kissinger Evans; Three daughters, Sandy wife of James Gibson and Karen wife of Robert Stakem, both of Orwin; Debra wife of Richard Speraw of Myerstown.  Five Grandchildren, Natalie Leiter, Bob Jr. and Adam Stakem and Ricky and Josh Speraw.  6 Great Grandchildren.  One sister, Jean E. Unger, Muir. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. Tower City with Rev. Edward Gobrecht.  Burial with Military honors will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin. Viewing will be from 12-1 pm at the chapel.  Memorial donations in his memory should be made to his church, Dietrich Avenue, Orwin PA 17980.
