Bernard T. Challenger, 82, of Williamstown passed away Sunday evening at the Hershey Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Williamstown, February 17, 1927, a son of the late William and Erma Bond Challenger.
He was a graduate of the Williamstown Catholic High School and a World War II Navy Veteran.
Bernard retired after 35 years with the 103rd Maintenance Company at Indiantown Gap, where he worked as an Automotive and Tank repairman. He also worked in Administration with the 103rd.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Williamstown, Williamstown American Legion and the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees.
Bernie enjoyed gardening and was an avid baseball fan, going to Florida every winter to watch spring training.
In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his brother, Mark and his wife Pauline Challenger.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Shirley E. Bowerman Challenger; 1 Brother, John Challenger and his wife Molly, Williamstown; Three sisters, Mary and her husband Dr. Robert Kemp, Lancaster; Catherine and her husband Robert Ahrens Florida and Helen O'Boyle, Reading. He is survived by nieces and nephews, including Mark Challenger and his wife Linda, Williamstown whom Bernie could always depend on. He is also survived by very dear friends, Howard and Betty Adams, Williamstown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 29th at 10:00 am from his church with Rev. C. Anthony Miller as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
