Walter C. Rhoades, 80, of Tower City passed away Tuesday at the Tremont Health and Rehab.

Born in Williamstown, September 2, 1929, a son of the late Oscar and Harriett James Rhoades.

Walter was a disabled veteran of the Korean War.

Walter was well known throughout the community as the  "Potato Man".  He also had his own band, The Williams Valley Mountaineers.

He was a member of the Wesleyan Church, Pine Grove, a member of the Tower City and Williamstown American Legions; Williamstown and Gratz V.F.W.,  Tower City Loyal Order of Moose and the Tower City, Reinerton, Sheridan, Muir, Joliett and Orwin Fire Companies.

Surviving are his wife, Betty L. Wesner Rhoades;  one son, Dion "Jocko" Rhoades, Tower City, one daughter, Wendy Henry, Reedsville.   Seven step children, Winnie, Sidney, Stanley, Sandy, Freeman, Gregory and Cathy. One sister, Florence Morgan, Dauphin.  Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 am from the chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. Tower City with Rev. Steve Nash  Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.   Viewing will be from 9:30 - 10:30 at the chapel.
