Dr. Mark A. Hornberger, 82, of Leck Kill, passed away Sunday evening at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Born in Leck Kill, January 20, 1935, a son of the late Joseph and Carrie Kahler Hornberger.  
 
Mark was a graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School. Upon graduation he served in the Unites States Army. He continued his education at Bloomsburg State College, graduating in 1964 with his Bachelor's Degree in Education. He received his Master's Degree in Geography from Southern Illinois University in 1966 and his Ph.D. in Geography from the Pennsylvania State University in 1974. 
 
Dr. Hornberger served as an Associate Professor of Geography from 1970-1994 at Bloomsburg University, where he taught, World Cultural Geography, World Physical Geography, Political Geography, Economic Geography, Environmental Issues & Choices, and Pennsylvania Folk Cultures. 
 
He was a renowned expert in Pennsylvania Dutch Culture. He was a Census/Statistician of the state of Pennsylvania for Old Order of Amish Colonies.   
 
He had taught Hunter Safety Courses at the Erdman Gun Club.
 
He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman; where he taught young men Sunday school. He was past president of the congregation, a member of the church council, parish council and the call committee.  He served on many other committees at St. James over his lifetime.
 
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marlene Forney;  a brother, Marvin Hornberger and a nephew, Rahn Forney.
 
He is survived by a brother, Marlin Hornberger; a brother-in-law, John Forney; two nephews, Martin and Marshal Hornberger.
 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25th at 11:00 am from St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman with Rev. Warren Egebo.  Burial will be in Jacob's Cemetery, Pitman. Viewing will be from 10:30 - 11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 153 Main Road, Pitman, PA 17964.  Dimon Funeral Home, Inc, Tower City has been entrusted with the arrangements.
