Esther R. Athey, 79, formerly of Tremont, passed away Wednesday night at Schuylkill Medical Center-South, Pottsville.
 
Born in Auburn, October 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Arthur and Hildegarde Steinert.
 
Esther was a graduate of the former Cressona High School.  She previously worked at for the former Tremont Pharmacy and at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
 
She and her late husband enjoyed traveling all over the country in their motor home.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her family.
 
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Clifford J. , 2006; a daughter Vicki Lynn Athey; two brothers, Walter and Peter Steinert and a sister Edith Hampton.
 
Surviving are her six children; Gayle Rhody and her husband Daniel, Hegins; Joseph Athey and his wife Carol Burke, Virginia; Linda Gately and her husband Gerry, Tremont; Ruth Watson and her husband Mark, Pine Grove; Lisa Lehman and her husband Greg, Fredericksburg and Eric Athey, Elizabethtown.  One sister, Margaret Aikey, Virginia; two brothers, Herbert Steinert, Orwigsburg and Robert Steinert, California.  Nineteen grandchildren. Nieces and nephews.
 
Religious services be held Monday, February 9th  at 10 am from Most Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Tremont with Rev. Paul Rothermel officiating.  Burial will be in the Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.  Visitation will be from 9-10 at the church.  Dimon Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Tower City has been entrusted with the arrangements.
