Joan L. Nelson, 82, of Muir, passed away peacefully Tuesday at her home.

Born in Muir, March 22, 1933, a daughter of the late George and Margaret Gunther Weaver.

Joan was a graduate of the former Porter Township High School.   She was the retired manager of a personal care home in Berrysburg.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton.

Family always came first with Joan; she enjoyed taking trips, whether to the beach, New York City or around town.  Every weekend Joan could be found with her family at the local races.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother Rudy Weaver; a great grandson, Daniel Mack and a daughter-in-law Sherry Nelson.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Homer "Chicker" Nelson; five children, Susan Brown wife of Michael, Pine Grove; John Nelson, Pottsville; Rex Nelson, husband of Deb; Tower City; Jennifer Fox wife of James, Muir and Tony Nelson companion of Jamie, Muir; a brother John Weaver, Tower City; ten grandchildren, Eric, Brandy, Darrel, Kelly, Julia, Leo, Kim, Jody, Nicole and Melissa. 10 Great Grandchildren and one on the way.  Nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30th at 2 pm from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc. Tower City with Pastor Barry Brown.  Burial will be private in St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin.  Viewing will be from 1-2 pm at the chapel.  In lieu of flowers donations should be made to  Compassionate Care Hospice
