John J. "Jack" Murray, Jr., 86, of Harrisburg, formerly of Tower City passed away Wednesday at the Osteopathic Hospital.
Born in Williamstown, July 21, 1929, a son of the late John and Eva Hunter Murray. He was a Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Jack retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot. He and his wife owned and operated Murray's Service Station and Mini Market, Tower City for over 25 years, retiring in 1986. He was also the co-founder of the former Goldmine Raceway.
Jack was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church and attended the Hershey Free Church. He was also a member Tower City American Legion and Orwin Fire Company.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ken and Bill Murray; two sisters, Betty Umholtz and Dorothy Zimmerman.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Joyce L. Snyder Murray; a son, John Murray III and his wife Denise, Tower City; a daughter, Linda Matthews and her husband Allen, Florida; one brother, Robert Murray and his wife Jo, Williamstown. Three granddaughters, LaRae Matthews, Kirsten and Chivon Murray; Nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2nd at 11:00 am from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc. Tower City with Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating.
