Robert D. Jenkins

August 25, 1927 ~ February 9, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old


Robert D. Jenkins, 89, of Williamstown, passed away Thursday morning under hospice care in Harrisburg.

Born in Williamstown, PA, on August 25, 1927, a son of the late David and Mary Klinger Jenkins.

He was a beloved and loving husband, father, and "Pap" to his grandsons.

A 1945 graduate of Williamstown High School, he was a recruit with the U.S. Marine Corps at Parris Island, SC when World War II ended. In 1951 he was employed by the Philadelphia Transportation Co. (PTC) which later became the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). As an equipment maintenance employee he worked until August 1989 at which time he ran out the door into retirement. He worked briefly as a volunteer during the formative years of the Dayton Market, Williamstown, PA and then he ran even more quickly into retirement never to look back.

He was a physical fitness enthusiast who enjoyed long walks and light weight lifting. In his earlier days he established himself as a pool shooter and poker player.

He was predeceased by his wife Donna Marie Taylor Jenkins, he is survived by his daughter, Donna I. Jenkins, Williamstown; a son, David R. Jenkins, (Eileen), Woodbury, NJ; two grandsons, Gregory and Richard Jenkins, Woodbury, NJ; brothers, Edward Jenkins (Harriet), Norwich, NY and Joseph Jenkins (Marlene), Williamstown, PA, an aunt Phyllis Davis, Willingboro, NJ and his beloved cat, Slick Mary.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, April 8th at 1:30 pm at the Dayton Hall, Williamstown.   In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Carolyn's House, Hospice of Central PA, 1701 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
