Donald Lee Kosier

August 10, 1936 ~ February 5, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old


 

Donald Lee Kosier, 80 of Lykens passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, February 5th at home.

Born in Lykens, August 10, 1936, a son of the late George and Sarah Williams Kosier.

Donnie was a member of St. Christopher's Lutheran Church,  Lykens.  He was also a member of the Liberty Hose Company #2 and the Lykens Legion.

He played in the Liberty Hose Co band for many years, was a member of a German band, and was an Endman with the Lykens Minstrel Show.

He graduated from Lykens High School Class of 1954.  He was in the Navy, where he was stationed aboard the USS Aucilla as a radio operator with home port in Barcelona Spain.  He joined the Naval Reserve, then the Army Reserve and at the time of retirement he belonged to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard 201st Red Horse Squadron at Indiantown Gap.

He retired from the US Postal Service with 35 years of service where he was a letter carrier in Lykens.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers; Warren "Tom", Charlie and Robert Kosier, three sisters; Thelma Updegrove, Margaret Stare and Mary Lou Faubler.  

Surviving are his wife Cathy Pinkerton Kosier, a son David Kosier (Lisa), Mechanicsburg; 1 granddaughter, Brianne Kosier; 1 grandson Britton Kosier; a step-granddaughter Shanell Messner who he helped raise, 4 step-children; Terry Klinger (Lisa), Jerry Klinger (Lee Ann),  Kerri Herb and Carl Slough Jr. (Lori) who was always there for him. 6 step-grandchildren; Joshua, Alec, Taylor and Jordan Klinger, Brandon and Braxton Herb. 3 step great-grandchildren; Kandyce, Donika and Dakota Shomper. A brother-in-law Leonard Stare. Nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Celtic Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Don during his illness, especially Jenice, his health aide and Tabitha his nurse.

A memorial service will be held, Thursday, February 9th at 11:00 a.m. from St. Christopher's Lutheran Church, Lykens with Pastor Del Attech Del.   Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.   Burial with military honors will be at Ft.
