Barbara Ann (Sangunitto) McMahon
05/31/34 - 10/24/25
Barbara was born May 31, 1934 in Brooklyn NY to James and Katherine (Carlin) Sangunitto. She grew up and lived in Brooklyn until the early 1980's when she relocated to New Providence, NJ. She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, and aunt who passed away 10/24/25 at the age of 91. Barbara passed with her caregiver and niece Jane Evans by her side.
She is preceded in death by her husband John McMahon (1998), sister Loretta (Sangunitto) Schumber (1971), brother Leon Sangunitto (2024), sister-in-law, Joan (Dillon) Sangunitto (2023), and her parents.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, and many close friends she would consider family.
Barbara was a high school graduate of Saint Francis Catholic School, Brooklyn NY. Following graduation, she was employed by New York Life Insurance for 30+ years working her way up to Assistant VP of Finance. After her retirement she completed her college degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey. She also volunteered at Runnells Hospital (25 years), local food pantries, and soup kitchens. She received an award for her dedication to volunteering. She impacted many through her volunteer work. Her generosity was boundless, and she leaves a legacy of kindness in her nieces and nephews.
A member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, New Providence, NJ, where she was an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Communion. She was a woman of profound faith and grace; her life was a testament to her deep devotion to God and her Catholic Beliefs.
Being a free spirit and fun-loving person, she was a world traveler. Most of her trips were with her longtime friend of 85 years, Mary Schnabel and Maureen Donahue. Her stories of their travels together to many countries gave her immense joy.
There will be a 10:00 AM Memorial Mass service on December 16, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace Church, New Providence, NJ. Immediately following the mass, there will be a graveside memorial at St. Theresa's Cemetery, Summit NJ.
