Charles A. Huntzinger, 84, of Tremont, passed away early Monday morning, July 3, 2023 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
Born in Tremont, November 21, 1938, a son of the late Charles and Lillian Pothering Huntzinger. Charlie was a 1956 graduate of Tremont High School.
He was a proud United States Navy veteran, serving from 1956 to 1959. He was stationed in Adak, Alaska and Patuxent River, Maryland, where he was an air traffic controller.
Charlie worked for 39 years at Exxon-Mobil Corporation where he retired as a human resource analyst in 1999.
He was very community-oriented and was involved with many organizations. He was an active member and former president of the Tremont Community Organization, was a member and past treasurer of the Tremont Historical Society, and was member of the Tremont Fire Company where he was recognized in 2009 for 50 years of continuous service.
Charlie was a former Mayor of Tremont, where he served two different terms. He also served on the Tremont Borough Council.
He was an avid baseball fan, playing for high school and local teams, including the Valley View Legion State Championship Team in 1955. He also played for the Navy team in Adak, Alaska, and Tall Timbers, Maryland. Charlie could always be found cheering on the Phillies.
He enjoyed traveling to Florida and had a talent for fixing things. Above all else, Charlie's family was the center of his world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin daughters, Julie Huntzinger, 2016, and Laurie Wolfgang, 2011; a brother, Richard Huntzinger; a sister, Phyllis Lorenz.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Betty A. Zimmerman Huntzinger; a daughter, Sherry Huntzinger, Tremont; a son, David Huntzinger (Jack), Fort Lauderdale, FL; his grandchildren, Brandy Wolff (Jake), Kelly Mattern (Mike), Bobbi Jo Fasnacht, Matthew Wolfgang, Ashley Hatter (Derrick), and Scotty Wolfgang; great grandchildren, Sean and Ava Fasnacht, Faith and Brynn Wolff, Madyson and Seth Wolfgang, and Alex and Kylie Hatter; nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Gracie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Tower City. Viewing will be held from 10-11 at the chapel. Charlie will be laid to rest privately with military honors in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
