Claire Talhelm Obituary

On March 10th, our most beloved mother, Claire Evelyn Talhelm (Mom), 98, passed away quietly of natural causes at her home in Williamstown.  She was born February 28, 1923, the daughter of the late Gladys O. and Eldon W. Snyder.

Mom was the last surviving member of the Williamstown High School, Class of 1940.  After graduation, she moved to and worked in Lansing, Michigan until her marriage to our father, John J. Talhelm, on January 2, 1944.  They returned to Williamstown where Mom filled their home with love, laughter, good cooking and five lively children who loved her dearly.

Mom is survived by all of her five children:  Jimmy Talhelm and wife, Trudy, of Millersburg, Janis Miller and husband, Jim, of Williamstown; Wendy Gentile and husband, John, of Lancaster; Lisa Unger and husband, Brian, of Tower City; and Jon Talhelm  and wife, Brenda, of Allentown.  Her greatest joy was her 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  Mom was also blessed to have Maryanne Murray as her caretaker and friend over the last number of years.

A homemaker all of her life, Mom was the kindest and gentlest of women.  She enjoyed gardening, was an avid swimmer and loved gathering with friends and family.  Her favorite past-time in recent years was sitting on her back porch watching the many birds and small animals that frequented her feeders.

A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at the United Methodist Church of Williamstown on March 16, 2021.  Doors will open at 9:30 for visitors and the service will begin at 10:00 am.  A private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williamstown United Methodist Church 150 East Street, Williamstown, PA 17098 or the Williamstown American Legion Post 239, 123 W. Market Street, Williamstown, PA 17098.
