David Royal Copeland Jr, 71, of Tower City, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025 at his home.
He was born on December 17, 1953 in Dodge City, Kansas to David Royal Copeland and Charlotte Mae Copeland (nee Dody). He had three brothers: Mark "Tim", Steve, and Scott.
David grew up in San Diego, California where he attended Patrick Henry High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army where he was a heavy machinery operator. During his service he met and married his wife, Ethel Viola Copeland "Sue" in 1974. He served in Fulda, Germany where his only child, David Royal Copeland III, was born. He attained the rank of SP4, before being honorably discharged.
After the service, he returned to San Diego, California where he worked for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans). Shortly after beginning his CalTrans career, he transferred to Desert Center, CA, a very small town in the middle of the Colorado Desert. He retired from CalTrans in 2009 and moved to Tower City, where he resided until his passing.
He enjoyed doing carpentry projects with his wife and playing computer games with her.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Sue and his brother Steve.
Surviving are his son, David Royal Copeland III; his grandson, David Royal Copeland IV; brothers Tim and Scott.; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Shirley Yerges; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Kathleeen Yerges.
David will be laid to rest privately with full military honors in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
