Dr. Paul A. Anderson, 87, of Lykens, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, May 29, 2025.

Born in Bellefonte on Wednesday, January 5, 1938, a son of the late Edwin and Mary Boyer Anderson.

Paul had a genuine passion for education and rehabilitation. He originally received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Penn State University. He furthered his education at West Virginia University where he got his Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology. Paul then finished his education at Penn State where he received his Doctor of Education in Vocational/Industrial Education, minoring in Psychology.

He was extremely dedicated to his career and worked in the field of psychology at various places throughout his life. Paul started his career at the West Virginia Division of Vocational Rehabilitation where he worked as a rehabilitation counselor before moving to Wisconsin Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. He then moved to the University of Wisconsin where he briefly was an administrator with the Rehabilitation Counseling Office. After leaving the University of Wisconsin, he was the Director of Staff Training with the New Hampshire Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, later working as the Director of Clinical Services at Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Inc. He was very proud of his work while living in New Hampshire.

In 1983, Paul transitioned into private practice where he functioned as a rehabilitation and consulting psychologist. In 1987, Paul opened his own business, Anderson Associates Psychology & Counseling. Within this business, he held many important roles, including the Chief Consulting Psychologist for the Dauphin County Prison Health Services, a case manager for the Pennsylvania Head Injury Foundation, a psychotherapist for the Handler Center, the Clinical Site Supervisor for Shippensburg University, and many more. He retired in 2022.

Paul belonged to many organizations throughout his life. He was a director with Penn State Alumni Network. He also served on various boards, including the Conservation Reserve, Northeast Combine, and the American Board of Vocational Experts. Paul also was the President of three Racing Pigeon Club.

He was a nationally renowned breeder and shower of pigeons. The birds from his Hurry Home Lots were acclaimed. He was known for his gentle handling of the birds and won many awards throughout the years for his Show Homers. In the late 1970s, he moved his family back to a farm near Gratz which had been in his family for generations. He spent endless time restoring and preserving it for the family to enjoy into the future. He avidly followed Penn State sports, especially football and wrestling, throughout his life. Paul also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling, farming, hiking, biking, and the warmth of sunshine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Baumbach, and a brother, Ray Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Hancock Anderson; four children, Susan Fulmer, Diane Griffin, Joel Anderson, and Bruce Anderson; three stepchildren, Moriah Derr, Isaac Brown, and Joel Brown; two sisters, Grace Anderson Singer and Mary Elizabeth Anderson; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 1289 S Crossroads Rd, Lykens, PA 17048. Paul will be laid to rest in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Lykens.
