Ethel K. Behney, 85, of Tower City, passed away Saturday morning, April 30, 2022 at her home.
Ethel was born in Orwin, on March 12, 1937, a daughter of the late Nathan and Martha Schwalm Behney. She was the youngest of five children, being predeceased by all, David "Squizz" Behney, Ruth Houtz, Irvin and Dean "Peanut" Behney. She leaves behind several nieces, nephews and her beloved cat Suzie.
Ethel was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin. She enjoyed growing her beautiful roses and gladiolus so she could gift bouquets to make others happy. She also enjoyed doing crosstitch. Her favorite pastime were bus trips to the casino with her friends.
To say that Ethel was a "character" is an understatement. After the fearless and high spirited days of her youth she later led a quiet and unassuming life. She was, however, known for her risqué stories and earthy comments. She was kind-hearted, thoughtful and generous.
Ethel was a hard worker, working many years at Tallman Farms and Dottie's Place, and a resilient figure in the face of the many adversities she experienced throughout her life.
As we say goodbye to you Ethel, let us leave with this quote: God doesn't give the hardest battles to his toughest soldiers. He creates the toughest soldiers through life's hardest battles.
Ethel will be laid to rest at a public graveside service for family and friends on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 11:00 am from St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin with Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating.
If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please make it to St. Peter's Cemetery Fund, c/o St. Peter's Church, 427 Dietrich Avenue, Orwin, PA 17980.
