George Tiazkun, 97, of Lykens, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Lykens, September 21, 1924, a son of the late Theodore "Frank" and Mary Boburka Tiazkun. George was a graduate of the former Lykens High School. He was a United States Army W.W. II Veteran.
George was the retired manager of the former Alfa Laval, Lykens. Following retirement he began his own business, DraCool of Lykens.
He was a lifelong active member of the former Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Lykens. He was also a member of the Gratz V.F.W., Williamstown American Legion and had served on the board of the Lykens Water and Sewer Authority.
George will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his town of Lykens, where he enjoyed volunteering and giving back to the community. His family was the center of his world, he was extremely proud of his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Stakem Tiazkun, his second wife Betty Sigel Tiazkun, two sisters; Mary Golinski, Fannie Sass; four brothers, Frank, Charles, Elias and John Tiazkun.
Surviving are his two children; Michael Tiazkun and his wife Connie, Mechanicsburg and Patti Welsh and her husband Joe, Wiconisco, five grandchildren; Kathleen Welsh, Beth Ann Reeser, Richard Welsh, Abigail Balchune and Michael Welsh, nine great grandchildren, a sister Hope Goffredo, Toms River, NJ, a brother, Walter Tiazkun, Lykens. Nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00 am from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc, Tower City. Burial with military honors will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 10:30-11 at the chapel.
