Gladys Deiter Obituary

Gladys V. Deiter, 91, of Tower City, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.

Gladys was born in Wiconisco on Sunday, September 10, 1933, a daughter of the late John and Vergie Sedesse Perhach. She was a 1951 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.   

She worked for many years with the family business, the former J.H. Deiter and Sons, Tower City, where she was the secretary and did bookkeeping. Prior to that, she worked for the Pennsylvania State Police where she was a Fingerprint Analyst.

Gladys was a member of the former Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, Williamstown and was currently attending the Christ United Methodist Church, Tower City.   

She was a member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Glen Chapter, Lykens and the Valley Girls Red Hat Society. Gladys was also a member of the former Tower Porter Rotary Club.

She was very involved with the Tower Porter Improvement Organization, where she had served as the Secretary. She was instrumental in the annual Old Home Week Celebration in Tower City where she volunteered for over 50 years and could be found working in the office every night of the event.

In 2018, Gladys was honored as the Grand Marshal of the Porter Tower Sesquicentennial Parade 

Her late husband, Dale W. Deiter served as the Mayor of Tower City for 41 years. Gladys could often be found assisting him at every event and was very knowledgeable on local history in the community.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother John Perhach.

Surviving are her son, John D. Deiter and his wife Kim; two grandsons she adored, Todd Deiter and his wife Skye and Stephen Deiter, both of Harrisburg; great grandchildren Bash and Blair Deiter; numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 10-11 am from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home Inc., Tower City. Eastern Star services will be begin at 11:00 am followed by funeral services officiated by Pastor Amanda Bressler. Gladys will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the Greenwood Cemetery.
