J. Alvin Snyder, 80, of Tower City, PA, passed away peacefully at Lincoln Christian Home in Ephrata, PA on March 2, 2025.
He was the husband of Jean (Seibel) Snyder with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster County, PA, on May 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Elam N. and Ada (Zimmerman) Snyder. He was a member of the Hegins Valley Mennonite Church in Hegins, PA, and served as a bishop in the Eastern Pennsylvania Mennonite Church for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children, Carey, husband of Joyce (Rohrer) of Waymart, PA; Mary Ann, wife of Gary Martin of Decker, MI; Beth, wife of Kenneth Martin of Trout Run, PA; Susan, wife of Dwayne Heatwole of Spring Dale, WA; David, husband of Amy (Garman), of Tower City, PA; Rachel, wife of Arlyn Ebersole of Shippensburg, PA; Joel, husband of Karen (Zimmerman) of Mohnton, PA; Anthony, husband of Lucille (Horst) of Ashland, PA; 43 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one sister, Martha Ann, wife of Myron Newswanger of Ephrata, PA.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Parke Snyder and one infant granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Swatara Mennonite Church, 10 Camp Swatara Road, Myerstown, PA. A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 9 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 10 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Swatara Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the Hegins Valley Mennonite Church Cemetery.
