Joanne Konick-McMahan

Joanne Konick-McMahan, 75, of Halifax, Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. 

Born in Harrisburg on Monday, March 5, 1951, she was the daughter of the late John and Irene Graham Konick.  Surviving her are her husband of 50 years, Michael  J. McMahan; a son, Ryan McMahan, New Cumberland; and a sister, Marge Paulding, Maryland. 

Joanne was a 1969 graduate of Halifax High School. Following graduation, she received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Temple University and her Master's degree in Nursing from Villanova University. 

Joanne dedicated her life to helping others. For thirty years, she worked as a registered nurse in the Medical Intensive Care and Step-Down Units at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. She also taught nursing students at Messiah University, University of Pennsylvania Hospital, and the Harrisburg Hospital. Joanne retired from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, working in the CCRN Certification Program as the Mid-Atlantic representative. After she retired, she continued to volunteer her nursing skills wherever needed. She was a volunteer nurse at Camp Hebron, and she spent time doing home health services in the Harrisburg area. 

Her life's mission of helping others went beyond her nursing career. She was a very faithful Christian, and she was very proud to be a certified lay minister in the Methodist faith. She was the former lay minister at Zion Stone United Methodist Church and recently retired as lay minister with the Mosaic Community Church, both of Halifax. Joanne also formerly served as a chaplain for the UPMC Hospital, Harrisburg.  She traveled to India, Uganda, and Kentucky on Mission trips with a faith-based group. 

Volunteering was such an important part of Joanne's life. She was very active with the Halifax Food Room, serving as director for two years.  She also volunteered with Loads of Love Community Base, an organization dedicated to helping those in need with laundry services. Joanne also volunteered with youth after-school programs. 

Growing up on her family farm in Halifax, she was taught from a young age the value of hard work. When she was not volunteering, she could often be found gardening, spending time with her beloved pets, going to the beach, and traveling. Her family was her world. 

A Celebration of Love will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 11:30 AM in Mountainside Haven, located at Camp Hebron, 957 Camp Hebron Rd, Halifax, with Deke Rider officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11:30. Please dress casual, and feel free to wear something “yellow” – as it was her favorite color.
