Jonathan J. Murray

August 23, 1993 ~ October 25, 2021 (age 28)


Jonathan Joseph Murray, 28, of Tower City, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 as a result of a tragic fire at his home.

He was born in Pottsville, August 23, 1993 a son of John A. Murray, Tower City and Jann D. Sapienza (Rob), Manheim.

Jonathan was a 2012 graduate of Williams Valley High School. He also attended Bloomsburg University. While in high school, Jonathan worked part-time at Boyers Food Market. He worked his way up to Assistant Manager of the Lykens store. Jonathan was also the Manager at the Garage Bar, Tower City, a job he enjoyed and took great pride in.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City; the Tower City Loyal Order of the Moose, the Garage Pool Team, the Williamstown VFW and the Orwin Gun Club.

Jonathan enjoyed playing a good game of basketball, going to concerts with his mom and sister, and listening to music. He also loved his two rescue cats, Ziggy and Charlie.

Jonathan had a natural gift to talk to anyone. Whether greeting you with a smile and a conversation at Boyers, having a listening ear or giving advice at The Garage, he was the guy you could always depend on.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Anna Shadle and Joseph and Helen Murray; three uncles, Donald Shadle, Michael and Patrick Murray; an aunt, Monica Murray.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his sister, whom he was very close to, Allison M. Murray, Philadelphia; his niece, Norah, his aunts; Marie Rodichok, Peg Frankenstine, Maryanne Murray, Therese Garrett,  uncles; Joe, Jim, Tim, Matt, Chris and Francis Murray. Numerous cousins, including Timmy and Joey Murray who were like brothers to Jonathan. Many friends whom he thought of as family.

A Celebration of Jonathan's Life will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City with Pastor Annette Shutt. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM at the church.  Private burial will be held in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Cemetery, Williamstown.

When he was younger, Jonathan spent countless days at the park playing basketball and swimming at the pool.  A memorial at the park will be established for him.
