Joseph J. Wiscount, 91, of Zerbe, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pottsville.
Born in Branchdale on Wednesday, February 21, 1934, a son of the late James and Stella Sternick Wiscount. Joe was a 1952 graduate of Minersville High School.
He was a proud United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Joe was a lifelong truck driver. He drove for numerous companies throughout his life, retiring from Rick Withelder Trucking Company. He had a very strong work ethic and he always kept himself busy doing side jobs.
He was of the Catholic faith, belonging to the former St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, Branchdale.
Joe’s family will miss his trademark sarcasm, stories of days gone by, and sports commentary. A proud member of the Newtown Fire Company and Newtown Gun Club, Joe loved being outdoors, fixing up the house, and working on furniture projects that “only needed a few adjustments.” He was happiest with a cup of coffee in hand, spending time with family, talking everyone’s ear off, and bragging about his grandkids. Since Joe hated long obituaries, we’ll keep this short – but know that his humor, heart, and conversation will be missed far longer than he’d have patience for reading this.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Wiscount and a great grandson, Tyler Milbut; two sisters, Elizabeth Dorazio and Joanne Wiscount.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise Stine Wiscount, to whom he would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on November 18th; four children, Lorrie Frey (Dave), Heckscherville, Jodie Thomas, Minersville, Joseph Wiscount (Lee Ann Butensky), Branchdale, and Marea Heck (Dale), Virginia; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Tower City. Visitation will be from 12-1 PM at the chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284 or the Suicide Prevention Task Force of Schuylkill County, 11 E Main Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
