Lane C. "Nitz" Bailey, 65, of Tower City, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his home.
Born in Pottsville, February 10, 1959, a son of the late Clair and Lorraine Hand Bailey. Nitz was a 1977 graduate of Williams Valley High School.
Nitz had a very strong work ethic, starting at a young age working at Tallman Farms. He then worked for General Mills for many years. Following his time at General Mills, he worked for TYCO, retiring after 20 years of employment.
He was a very active member of the Orwin Fire Company where he could often be found volunteering wherever needed. You could often find him behind the bar or in the kitchen. He was also a member of the 717 Car Club.
Nitz enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, and his motorcycles. He was very mechanically inclined and was known for his ability to fix anything. Every Christmas he looked forward to dressing up as Santa Clause for the kids. Most of all, he will be remembered for his larger than life personality. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. If you were lucky enough to call Nitz your friend, you were blessed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lance and sister-in-law Judy Bailey.
Nitz is survived by his companion of 22 years, Kathy Tendler. He was a father figure for Kathy's four boys Alex, Andrew, Travis, and Jefferson and was known as Pappy Nitz to eight grandchildren. He is also survived by dear friends - too many to even count.
A Celebration of Nitz's Life will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc. Visitation will be held from 10-11. Nitz will be laid to rest with his parents in the Fairview Cemetery, Muir. A luncheon and a time of fellowship will follow at the Orwin Fire Company.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Orwin Fire Company, 333 Dietrich Avenue, Orwin PA 17980.
