Linda Sharon Smeltz, of Halifax, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born on December 31, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Anna Williard. She was a 1967 graduate of Upper Dauphin Area High School.
Linda was preceded in death by her beloved son, Gary Machamer, whom she missed dearly; her sisters, Romaine Worhacz, Joanne Cessna, and Carol Williard; and her brothers, Robert, Donald, Fred, and Carl Williard.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Gary Smeltz; her two children, Larry Machamer of Halifax, PA, and Brandi (John) Green of Millersburg, PA. She was a proud grandmother to Kallee Chubb, Autumn Dewine, Konner Walker, Bridget Bergey, LaRay Harner, Austin Machamer, Hunter Machamer, and Cole Machamer. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, with another expected in July. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Nancy Troutman.
Linda dedicated 25 years of her life to serving others through her work with Pinnacle Health Hospice, where she compassionately cared for individuals in their final days. Her kindness, strength, and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on countless families.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including hiking, gardening, listening to country music, and, most importantly, spending quality time with her family and her precious dog Kady who never left her side. Linda had a special gift for bringing loved ones together, especially during the holidays, where she created warm memories around meals shared with those she cherished most.
A private burial will be held at the family’s convenience in the Miller's Cemetery, Halifax, followed by a celebration of life service.
Linda will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17110, who took excellent care of Linda the past several days.
