Mark Challenger, Jr. Obituary

Mark V. Challenger, Jr., 76, a lifelong resident of Williamstown, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, March 8, 2025 at UPMC- Harrisburg.

Mark was born in Harrisburg, on Wednesday, October 20, 1948, a devoted son of the late Mark Sr. and Pauline Adams Challenger.

He was 1966 graduate of Williamstown Catholic High School. Mark was a United States Army Veteran.

He retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he was an automotive equipment specialist.

Mark had been a very active and faithful member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and was currently a member of Our Lady of Christians Parish, Lykens. He was a longtime member of the Williamstown American Legion, #239 and its former military band, where he was in the color guard. Mark also previously served on the Williamstown Borough Council.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed to hunt and fish. Mark could often be found watching the LA Rams, Atlanta Braves, and the Oklahoma Sooners. He will be remembered for being a kind and gentle man.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Michaels Challenger, who recently passed away on January 13 2025; a step-granddaughter, Megan Carl, 2024.

Surviving are his stepchildren, Chris Reed and Jody Carl, both of Williamstown; two brothers, William Challenger (Shelly), Florida and Patrick Challenger (Penny), Louisiana; step grandchildren, Jessica Adams (Sam), Elijah Reed (Tiffany) and Jonathan Ferron; step great grandchildren, Elliott, Maverick, Chris, and Sophie; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM from the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Williamstown. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compassion in the Valley, 9 N Hand Street, Tower City, PA 17980, or to the Williamstown American Legion, 123 W Market Street, Williamstown, PA 17098.
