Mary Louise Trautman of Tower City,  passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024, at LVHN Schuylkill East Hospital in Pottsville.

Mary was born in Tower City, Pennsylvania on April 2, 1926, the daughter of Haven and Eva Mae (Osman) Hoffman. She lived her entire life in Tower City, graduating from High School in the Class of 1944.  Mary wed Carlos Riland Trautman in Maryland on November 25, 1950, to whom she was married for 62 years.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tower City, where she could be seen sitting in the same pew since she was a teenager.  She regularly assisted in setting up communion services and catering social gatherings after Sunday services.

Throughout her life Mary was active in giving back to the community being involved with Meals on Wheels, Tower City Senior Center, and most recently the Tower City Library. Additionally, Mary, along with her late husband, could always be counted on to provide transportation to medical appointments for area residents through Home Health Care.

Mary was steadfast in her patriotism, working to support the war effort in Middletown during World War II. Additionally, she served on the Tower City Election Board and as Judge of Elections for several years.

Mary was an avid reader and a strong proponent of education, demonstrated by her involvement on the planning committee to initiate a Kindergarten Program in the Tower City Area in the early-1960’s.

Throughout her adult life, Mary worked at numerous jobs in Tower City including Bestock Factory, Hawk’s Drug Store, AMP, and Reiser’s Food Market.

Mary’s hobbies included community service, reading, and travel. Her travels took her on several cruises as well as to international destinations such as the Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, to visit her daughter in the early 1990’s.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos (Buppy) Trautman in 2012.  Also passed are her siblings, Charles Hoffman, Alan Hoffman, Hilda Hawk, and Doris Smith.

Mary is survived by her three children, Timothy Alan Trautman (Diane) living in Texas, Carla Marie Trautman (Florida), and Todd Daniel Trautman (Tower City).  She is happy to be blessed with three grandchildren, Christopher Miller (Allison), April Duncan (Ross), and Tara Marie Trautman-Csencsits (Brian).  Mary also has three great-grandchildren, Alena Miller, Cash Miller, and her loving three-year old Oslo (Ozzie) Csencsits.  Mary’s extended family included 14 nieces and nephews all of which she has kept in contact with throughout the years.
