Mary Ellen Bender

Mary Ellen Bender, 93, of Tower City, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, January 12, 2025.

Mary Ellen was born in Tower City on Friday, July 31, 1931, a daughter of the late William and Ruth Kopp Jones.

She was a graduate of the former Tower City High School class of 1949 and also attended Lankenau Nursing School, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City, and active with Tower-Porter Community Library. Mary Ellen enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles, but above all else, she cherished the time spent with her family. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands George A. Parson and Mark Bender. Mary Ellen was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Yegley.

Surviving are her four children, Lynne S. Houtz and her husband Tom, Tower City, Sheryl J. Johnson and her husband Kevin, Silverdale, Washington, George A. Parson and his wife Gwen, Loyalton, and Meredyth E. Hubler and her husband Noel, Philadelphia; one sister, Janice Luckenbill and her husband Ken, Tower City; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.

Mary Ellen will be laid to rest privately in the Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City with Pastor Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating.
