Michael Barkos Obituary

Michael A. Barkos, 73, of Williamstown, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 11, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Pottsville on November 10, 1947, the son of the late George and Jeraldine (Hand) Barkos.

Mike was a 1965 graduate of Williamstown High School where he was the president of his class. He was a long-time employee of the City of Harrisburg Wastewater Treatment Facility, where he retired in 2004. He was a proud member of the Williamstown Legion Post 239.

He deeply loved his family and friends and was known for his exuberant personality, his witty sense of humor, and his imaginative story-telling and songs. An avid sportsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and was skilled at the art of tying flies. He happily shared his knowledge and respect for nature with the young people in his life. He spent many years hunting and fishing with dear friends at Camp Quarter Horse in Potter County, and he spent precious family time there every July.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Barkos, Jr.; his sister, Debra (Barkos) Reynolds; and his infant daughter, Erin Barkos.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Ellen (Warfield) Barkos; their children, Michelle and Keith Flynn of Tower City, Carla and Sam Wynn of Williamstown, and Nicole and Joe Corallo of East Berlin; his grandchildren, Elise and Torre Mangine, Sarah and Steve Kowalchick, Jacob Wynn and Alison Schuetz, Luke and Veronica Wynn, and Violet, Blu, and Jade Corallo; his great-grandchildren, Leo and Milo Mangine, and Emma and Ava Kowalchick. Mike is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, whom he deeply loved.

Due to inclement weather services will be held at Dimon Funeral Home Chapel, Tower City, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made in his memory to the Williamstown American Legion, 123 W. Market Street, Williamstown, PA 17098.
