Rev. John Robert "Bob" Snyder, 90, of Millersburg went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, August 4, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.
Born in New York City, March 24, 1934, a son of the late Nicholas E. and Edith M. Smiley Snyder. Bob was a United States Coast Guard Veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He attended numerous universities throughout his life, including Yale and Clark. He was a graduate of Bangor Theological Seminary where he received his degree in theology.
He ministered for 65 years and served locally with the Stone Valley Parish, Dalmatia, from 1991-2003. Following his time at Stone Valley, he continued his ministry as a supply pastor to many local congregations in the area, serving in the United Church of Christ and Lutheran denominations.
Bob was a current member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Millersburg, the Millersburg American Legion, Boylstown Lodge F&AM where he was a 58 year member, and was active with the Millersburg Ferry Boat Association.
He enjoyed his trips to the beach and had a impressive collection of seashells. Following his retirement, he could often be found sitting on his deck overlooking the river and watching the ferry.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Snyder and a brother Nicholas Snyder.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Patricia M. Delaney Snyder; his children, Michelle M. Potteiger, Millersburg, Holly Noelle Scally, Harrisburg, John Snyder, Massachusetts, and Laura Evans, South Carolina; a sister Joan Kubec, Florida; five grandchildren, Rachel, Samuel, Cayleigh, Finnegan and Freya; many nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 10:30 AM from the Grace United Methodist Church, Millersburg. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30. A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service in the church social hall. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:30 PM from the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
