The Reverend Kenneth E. Campbell, Jr., 48, of Millersburg, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, August 3, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. He courageously fought pancreatic cancer for the past month and a half.
Born in Sunbury, on Friday, September 17, 1976. Ken was a 1994 graduate of Shikellamy High School.
He received his Bachelor's in Music Education from Susquehanna University and his Master's of Education Administration from the California University of Pennsylvania. In 2003, Ken began his teaching career as the Director of Bands and Choir at the Millersburg Area High School, a position he still held and loved. He was a mentor and father figure to many of his students, always willing to listen and give advice.
Ken will be remembered for his strong faith, love for ministry, and commitment to the Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville. He was an active parish musician with the church for over twenty five years, serving as the music director from 2005-2021. He was ordained to Word and Service at Salem on September 9, 2018 as the congregation’s first deacon. His diaconal training occurred at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH. On February 11, 2024, he was ordained to Word and Sacrament ministry, and duly installed as the nineteenth called pastor of Salem Lutheran Church. His congregation viewed him as the shepherd of their flock. There is no denying the positive impact Ken made on the lives of people he served at Salem.
Above all else, Ken's greatest accomplishment in life was holding the title of husband and dad. Kasey, Eric, and Aidan were the center of his world. He was extremely proud of his sons, and he was very active in their lives, always making sure to show up for their events. In his younger years, Ken was an Eagle Scout and as he grew older, he became a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 151, Millersburg, ensuring his sons would have the same experiences he had as a child. He was also a member of the Brass Menagerie Quintet where he got to share his love of music outside school. In his free time, he could often be found relaxing with his beloved dog Patrick by the backyard campfire, exploring new restaurants, traveling, or simply enjoying a glass of Scotch and a cigar. Ken truly had a love for the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed by his family, congregation, students, and the entire community.
Surviving are his parents, Kenneth Sr. and Karen Walshaw Campbell, Sunbury; his beloved wife, Kasey J. Custer Campbell, to whom they've celebrated 24 years of marriage on July 14, 2025; his two sons, Eric M. and Aidan M. Campbell, both at home; his brother, Benjamin Campbell, Sunbury; his father-in-law, Bill Custer, Fairfield, and mother-in-law, Pat Custer, Pittsburgh; sister-in-law, Kathy Stine (Raymond), Waynesboro; brother-in-law, Jason Custer (Kristen Leich), Harrisburg.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM from the Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville with Rev. Rodney Lilley and Rev. W. Steve Shipman officiating. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, August 8, 2025 from 6-8 PM and also on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 10-11 AM at the church. Ken will be laid to rest in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville.
