Robert Maurer Obituary

Robert W. Maurer, 88, formerly of Elizabethville passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Born in Gowen City on Saturday, April 16, 1938, he was the son of the late William and Sadie Wary Maurer. Bob was a 1956 graduate of Tri Valley High School.

Bob was drafted in the United States Army on October 21, 1961. He spent 2 years in the Army Reserves at Fort Indiantown Gap before serving in Germany for 18 months.

He was a member of Carpenter's Union #487, Harrisburg. Bob was last employed with Commercial Flooring System, Montgomeryville.

Bob was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Dalmatia. He also was a proud member of Ashlar Lodge No. 570, Lykens and was a 32nd degree consistory member in the Harrisburg A.A.S.R.

He had a passion for preserving local history. He was a founding member and Chairman of the Building Committee of the Mahanoy and Mahantongo Historical and Preservation Society, Dalmatia. Bob also was a founder, life member, and treasurer for the Elizabethville Area Historical Society, where he was instrumental in obtaining the Elizabethville VFW building.

Bob was a life member and officer at the American Legion Post 404, Elizabethville, where he designed and oversaw the construction of the memorial wall at the legion. He also belonged to Short Mountain Conservation Club and the Sons of the American Revolution - Fort Halifax Chapter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Marie Zeigler Maurer, 2023, and his sister, Joan Henninger, 2023.

He is survived by his two nieces, Jayne Jones and her husband Charlie, Shamokin, and Susan Henninger, Ashland; a nephew, William Henninger and his wife Tammy; two great nephews; two great great nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM from the Trinity United Church of Christ, Dalmatia, with Pastor Tom Moulfair officiating. Viewing will be from 10-11 at the church.  A masonic service will be held at 11AM. Burial will be held in the church cemetery with military honors.  A luncheon will follow at the church social hall.
