Sheri Lynn Minnich-McDermott, 58, of Hampstead, NC, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sheri was born November 28, 1967, in Pottsville, PA, the daughter of Richard Dale and Paula Jean (Shadle) Minnich.
Sheri graduated from Williams Valley High School in 1985 and resided in Tower City until moving to coastal North Carolina in 2005. Her enthusiasm, determination, and extraordinary people skills facilitated her successful career as a realtor, working for ReMax Essentials.
Sheri is survived by her significant other William Hill, mother, Paula Jean Minnich, sister, Susan Lynn (Minnich) Bingeman and brother-in-law Brian Scott Bingeman, nephews Lucas Scott and Tristan Scott Bingeman, daughter Chantiel Alexis (Umberger) Fischer, son-in-law Matthew Carl Fischer, granddaughters Pearl, Lenora, and Betty, son Corey Todd Umberger and granddaughter Caylynn. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Dale Minnich, grandmother “Memmy” Mary Elizabeth (Molko) Minnich, grandfather “Pappy” Arthur Franklin Minnich, “Gram” Elizabeth (Libby) Collens (Sineath) Shadle, and “Grampa” Dean Russell Lewis Shadle.
Sheri especially loved the beach (you can never have enough seashells, and sand is a fact of life), endlessly enjoyed sunrises and sunsets, and was very talented in all sorts of arts and crafts making. She had a passion for growing and nurturing her garden, an abundance of plants and flowers, caring for her flock of chickens, as well as being the egg delivery fairy in the community. She was kind, compassionate, generous, and vibrant. She loved life and lived her life to the fullest with no regrets, always chose joy, and was well known for encouraging everyone she knew and met to do the same. Sheri had many deep-rooted, genuine, and meaningful friendships throughout her life. She considered her friends to be the family she got to choose. She loved and cherished her family and wholeheartedly believed that family was everything, including her beloved Weimaraner dog Luna.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 1 – 3pm at the Williamstown American Legion Post 239 located at 123 West Market Street, Williamstown, PA. For anyone not able to attend the celebration of life, Sheri would want you to plan a time to “gather” with friends and family, enjoy some delicious food, and toast a drink to celebrate all that is good in your own lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sheri’s name can be made to Hospice at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 physicians drive, Wilmington, NC 28401. Donations can also be made online at life.care.org/donate/
