Shirley M. Shuttlesworth

Shirley M. Shuttlesworth, 94, of Palmyra, formerly of Williamstown, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, Friday night, May 12, 2023. 

Shirley was born in Williamstown on September 13, 1928, a daughter of the late Howard and Verna Hoffman Skelton. She was a 1945 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.

Prior to devoting her life to her family, she was employed by the former Williamstown Telephone Company. Shirley was also instrumental in establishing the Williamstown Library and served as the librarian.

She was a lifelong member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church and was currently attending the Campbelltown Methodist Church.  Shirley enjoyed reading, gardening, and cross stitching. Being an avid history buff, she looked forward to her trips to Williamsburg, VA.

She will be remembered for the pride she took in the appearance of her home, her love for her family, and her cats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Shuttlesworth, Sr. 2006, and a sister Anna W. Allen.

Surviving are her two daughters; Penny J. Bush (Terry), Williamstown, and Amy L. Shuttlesworth (Walter Yuslum), Palmyra; four sons, Joseph W. Shuttlesworth Jr. (Judy), Tower City, Michael H. Shuttlesworth (Karen), Thomas A. Shuttlesworth (Patricia), and Brent J. Shuttlesworth (Jill) all of Williamstown; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 19th at 11:00 am from the Williamstown United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 10-11 am in the church.
