John J. Wiest; 93, of Williamstown passed away at Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center on May 4, 2016.

Born April 9, 1923 in Gratz, PA, John was the son of the late  Allen and Annie Wiest of Spring Glenn.  He is also predeceased by two brothers, Ellwood and Herman, a sister, Arlene Jackson and his wife Carolyn (Kembel) of Hegins, who passed away on January 26, 1999.

John is survived by his son, Kelly E. Wiest of Pleasanton, California and his daughter, Bonnie Laudenslager of Williamstown;  two sisters, Shirley Schrope and Connie Bagley and a brother, Eugene Wiest as well as nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

John served as cook in the US Navy in WWII and was awarded 4 battle stars and the Purple Heart after his ship, the Vincennes, sunk in the Battle of Savo Island in 1942.

For over 30 years, John and his wife, Carolyn, owned and operated Wiest’s Restaurant and Motels (aka the Milk Bar) and are widely known for serving the best Cheeseburgers and All You Could Eat Fish Fry in the 1960’s.

John loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and going dancing

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sacramento, PA and a member of the Williamstown American Legion.  

Services will be Friday, May 13th at 11:00 am  from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc. Tower City with Rev. Raymond Holland.  Viewing will be from 10-11 am at chapel.    Immediately following the service, burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.
